Aerogel

In 1992 a physist, from one of our venders, first demonstrated what he called 'Solid Smoke'. He removed the material from a Marlboro cigarette box and allowed it to 'float' to the table. While floating down slowly, the material, spread out into a sheet approximately 10 inches square and 1/4 inch in thickness. He then lit a propane torch, like the one to the right, and placed the Solid Smoke over his bare hand. He then proceeded to attempt to burn his hand through the material. He held the torch there for 20 seconds or so before ending the demonstration. We were speechless. It has incredible insultating properties. I have since told many people about the Solid Smoke with almost universal disbelief. I found the proof , finally, at the NASA Jet Propultion Lab Site.
