The strange salt formations for which Mono Lake is famous look like 'tailings' dumped from a boat when the lake was deeper.
Lake Tahoe is beautiful but sadly not pristine. Too much commercial development and exploitation. Casinos and wise guys abound where there are far too many people and far too few fish. 
 

We've visited Tahoe several times but only stayed over night once. The area is geared for the 'Jet Set' and priced accordingly.
