We start our photo tour of the Western SierraNevada from the south. Sequoia Nat. Park is best reached by using Highway 198 of Highway 99 near Visalia.
After entering the Park the first major cutoff is to Mineral King, a small town of former gold and silver mines.
Today Mineral King is the least visited and least appreciated of the areas you are able to visit by Automobile. Most of the Sequoia - Kings Canyon National Parks are only accessible by backpack.

The Giant Sequoia trees are the largest living things. Their diameters are in excess of 30 feet and their heights are over 250 feet. The bark has the feel of cork or balsa wood.

The only other time I felt as totally awed as I did in the Giant Forest, was as a child during a visit to New York City.

There are campsites and cabins for rent right in a grove of giants. Be sure you book a year in advance though.

Our next stop is Kings Canyon which is just north and connected to Sequoia National Park.
