The photo to the right shows the power of the eruption of Mount St Helens in lower Washington State in May of 1980. The twisted remains of a bridge that once stood 7 miles upstream on the Tootle River.

Note the large stump sitting high and dry along the rivers edge. I wonder if it the caused the destruction of the brick structure.

The falls, as well as other falls and view points, are found on the 'frontage road' along side of Interstate 84 eastbound out of Portland Oregon. 

Note the 'pipe organ' lava visible near the bottom of the falls. This is very similar to the Devil's Postpile in the eastern Sierras.
