In the Pacific Northwest there is a marked difference between the well watered coast and the dry interior. Crater Lake is located on the southern end of the great dividing range the Cascade mountain range. < NPS >
Our first group of photos happened by accident. We were driving north on Interstate 5 looking for a place to cut across to the coast.

When we found the exit we were looking for it was about lunch time so we looked for a quiet spot to pull over to fix some sandwiches. We pulled into what looked like a little rest stop along the freeway and noticed the nice shot above.
After lunch, we got out to take the shot on top, and noticed a sign telling us that we were at the Lower Umpqua Fish Ladder. The shot directly above is of the Ladder. We were able to enter the Ladder and take the shot to left.

The road to the coast was beautiful, traveling through a grove of Giant Redwoods, but alas it rained the whole way. We ended on the Oregon coast near Newport, a small town supported by the fishing industry.

Our next page see more of the Oregon coast, as well as a lumber mill.
