Annie Kruse
1883 to 1976
Annie
Kruse was born in central Russia near the Caspian Sea in the
year 1883. She fled Russia with her newlywed husband Louie Kruse
in 1899 when the Tzar unlawfully ordered the German people living in Russia
to fight in the Russian Army. A law, penned by Catherine
the Great in 1803, forbad the drafting of the Germans. So they
and about 100 others in the Kruse family, were forced to live with Gypsies
and fight the Bolsheviks for 10 months as they crossed Russia enroute to
Germany. Approximately only 24 made it to Berlin, where they were turned
away and forced to emigrate to to the New World.
