The Cultural Center was built by the Mormons, which surprised me. I had never heard of Christians doing anything other than suppress opposing religions. I'm happy to see excellent work done here.

After supper we were given an hour break, which was good, because we were getting tired. But the night show was spectacular. With the use of fire and the dancers singing and chanting, the entire effect  was mesmerizing.

As I watched the dancers I realized that there dances were like Martial Arts Katas. The ancient people have guaranteed that the survival skills of the ancestors will be continued into perpetuity.

The last show was over at 10:00 P.M. Wow all day and  night! For only (in 1988)$65.00 it was the best deal on Oahu. Our next day included snorkeling and body surfing in the morning and a hike to a water fall in the afternoon. What a schedule!!

The birds were on the mural in the lobby of the Hoiday Inn Waikiki Beach Hotel were we stayed.
The hotel is located at the southern end of Hotel Row, making it easy to find late at night after a walk. The image on the bottom is of Waikiki Beach looking South with our hotel at the very end of the line.
Oahu is quite beautiful once we were able to get out of Honolulu into the countryside. The foliage is over-grown with  tropical flowers and Banana trees everywhere.

O' Haku Hei
The head Lei, or Hei, has been worn in the Hawaiian Islands as a traditional headpiece since ancient times. The Hei has lost non of its popularity over the years. The Haku Hei is made from a combination of ferns, berries and a variety of leaves and flowers. The foliage is stitched in layers to a backing such as bananadriedleaves and tied around the head.
