Our first view of the Island
is of the Honolulu City Dump as we
came in for a landing. Our first stop was Waikiki where we stayed
approx. one week at the Holiday Inn Waikiki.
After the air conditioning in the plane, the humidity and heat were a shock to the system. From the very moment we arrived the blatant commercialism of the place was thrust in our faces. |
Our room was on the 27th floor
of the hotel with an ocean view. We walked the length of the beach on the
first night. Our first morning was spent organizing and scheduling our
tours. Papillion Helicopters provided
us with several excellent aerial tours of the Island.

![]() Our first tour was a circumnavigation of the entire Island of Oahu with over flights of the Pearl Harbor area and downtown Honolulu. To the left is Diamond Head Crater Memorial. |

We did a little snorkeling here at Hanaumu Bay. The fish are so used to people in the water that they have become almost tame, often swimming right up to people. I'm sorry now I didn't spent the extra $30 they wanted to rent an underwater camera. |

![]() Not as many of our evening flight photographs came out as we would have liked, but the few we got were worth it...
