We found out how easy it is to travel from Island to Island by flying Aloha Airlines ($37). Maui is the best. That's the slogan that we heard everywhere on the Islands. If you have but one choice, make it Maui.
Deplaning after an aerial tour of Maui.
The scenery takes your breath away!
After landing in Maui we were airborne again almost immediately for a Scenic Air Tour of the Island. Maui is the Island of Wind Surfers. There were thousands in the water at a time.
Whales courtesy of the airport lobby on Maui.
Our luck was bad again as the only available aerial tour was in the AM and it was cloudy and rainy again. Not many shots but a nice tour.
The island is shaped sort of like an hourglass, with two dormant volcanos in the wide parts. The middle, which is fair flat, is where most everything is located. Hotels etc. The ends are the incredible part. To the north is where you go to ride the famous jackass ride. The shot to the right is of the area the ride goes through. Southbound is the 'Road to Hana'.  53 miles of switch backs and blind curves. We rented a car and drove about 10 miles towards Hana before turning around and that took 2 hours!
We drove around the rest of the day stopping only to eat lunch and supper, and to take pictures. We often we hiked to get better shots.  It was hot and humid, here as well, and our clothes were soaked right away.
We only spend 9 hours in this paradise and left disappointed. The rest of the itinerary had been scheduled in advance. This had been our only free day.
There are over 1600 recognized surfing spots in Hawaii
Tomorrow brings promise of a new day, we fly to Kauai. Everyone we talk to says 'you have to see Kauai'. Well we're going to spend almost a week there. We brought 40 rolls of film with us and it's been 8 days and we have only shot 13 rolls! The weather is really the controlling factor. The aerial tours are almost completely booked and the tours we seem to get are during times of rainy weather.
The Hulu

The Hula is an ancient dance that can trace it's roots back to Polynesia.

Maui is famous for
whale watching

To be considered a true Hawaiian a person must prove he has at least 2 % of their blood must be of Hawaiian Ancestry.
