Waimea Canyon is like the Black Canyon of Colorado, not as large or deep as the Grand Canyon, but much more attractive. The colors on the canyon walls are intense. Our pilot liked to 'buzz' the canyon walls, which was exciting, but made picture taking  near impossible.
The story, as I understand it, of the Hawaiian Islands date back about 1000 years when Polynesian Islanders sailed north and first colonized the Island chain. The Polynesians brought with then the first seeds of the demise of the Original Hawaiian Flora and Fauna

With the introduction of European Culture, the pace of extinction has only quickened. The Hawaiian Island as we know them will disappear soon if the entire Island chain isn't declared off limits to development and exploitation.
The Islands are also becoming more Japanese than Hawaiian. You see the Japanese Language is everywhere you look. The people of Japan have taken a liking for the Islands and are purchasing anything that isn't moving.
In our next and last Hawaiian Album we will attend what they call an Authentic Polynesian Luau. We found there are two types of 'Luaus' you can attend. The less expensive ones have far less food and intertwinement. This one we are attending is quite expensive and our expectations are up.
Next we visit the Na Pali and attend a Luau in our last album in this series. Don't miss the last of our comments about the dining and culture on the Islands...
