Kauai is the most 'rural' of the Island we visited. But of course we flew over Molokai but we didn't land. Kauai is called The Garden Isle. That's a good name but I think it should be changed to the Waterfall Isle. We stayed at the beautiful Kauai Hilton and rented a car, but found only 75 or so miles of road. We navigated the available roads before supper of the first day.
Waterfalls are everyplace you look!
We photographed at least six falls without hiking more than 100 metres. If you want to see rain like you've never seen it before, come to Kauai and be awed. This Island holds both records: There is no place on earth that has more annual rainfall or has received more rainfall in one year than this island.
During our six day stay on Kauai we experienced intermittent sun and rain showers.
While shopping at a Tourist Trap, we were caught in a rain deluge that flooded the area to a depth of 4 inches (over 11 cm). But just as fast as the storm came the water drained off and five minutes later the ground was only damp. And a half hour later it was dry! The heat and humidity are the worst.
I have to say something about the food on the Hawaiian Islands. The food I had on the Hawaiian Island was some of the Best and some of the Worst I have ever eaten. The restaurants located in the Hotels on the average was the best. Do's and Don'ts next.
We have three different aerial tours booked over the next few days and hope to take advantage a clear period if we get one. It clears for a little while everyday but not always at the same time.
