Our journey began with the short drive to Las Vegas, where we expected to spend a pleasant night having drinks and gambling with our $47.00 in nickels and dimes we brought with us. The views were spectacular despite the haze from the fires and ever present rain clouds.
The Mojave Desert
Note lava flow
There isn't much to see before you get to The Mojave
In the desert the colors are incredible.
When you live in the desert you have to get used to the ' crunch' in you food. Sand is blown everywhere, even in places you would never expect.
I should have know when I seen the road sign
for Death Valley, that things may not be going all that good.

Las Vegas - The first thing I thought when I saw 'The Strip'; Somebody's got to pay for this!
Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino

They have traffic jams at 5:30 am.!

Luxor Hotel and Casino
We decided not to stay in one of the 'Ritzy' hotels and opted to stay in the Laughing Jackalop Motel . The temperature that July evening was 113 degrees! We went out and tried to enjoy 'The Strip' but were forced to stay indoors at all times. We were able to 'spend' all of our nickels, but nowhere would they even give us change for our dimes! Then when we returned to our 'cheap' room we found the little air-conditioning unit in our room was inadequate to handle the heat. We had a bad night.
